Saṃsāra – the cycle of death and rebirth to which life in the material world is bound

We’ve begun adding some new songs to our playlist. It is going slowly, but we are working toward restoring some of the focused programming we had in the past. Ciaran and I have both devoted several hours each week to increasing the station, and bringing it back to what it was in what we still think of as our “Glory Days”.

Some of the songs we’ve been adding are not English, and we’ve received some queries about that choice. Some of those queries have seemed alarmed by our choices of songs, and the languages and genres of music which we are embracing.

For us, the world is one people. One soul, one face, one divinity. Each of us is a fragment of the whole, looking for a way to express truth that we can not perceive by ourselves.

So we welcome all paths that seem to lead toward a truth. Even if we do not know what that truth is.

One such song that has raised questions is “баста” by “сансара”. It’s lyrics and music are very uplifting and spiritual, filled with passion and clearly intent … but the genre is hip hop and rap, the language Russian, so the combination opens some doors that we’re aware some of our listeners are not used to having opened.

To hopefully help communicate the message of the song, and why it exemplifies the kind of music we are here to share and to promote, here is a translation from Google of the song’s lyrics.

Do it contrary, do it by hand.
Turn the world upside down, overturn the sky.
In every draft, in every draft, the teacher continues in his student.
All my life I go to the bottom. I've been looking for love all my life
To love one.

They said - it’s too late to save us and it’s too late to treat us.
Spit, because our children will be better than us.
Better than us … Better than us …

When I am gone, I will sing in voices
My children and the voices of their children.

They just swap us,
This is the law of samsara,
The cycle of people.
Oh, oh mom …

[repeat]

We can’t be erased, we live in spite
Let it be unlucky, but we will take our own.
This is the sky instead of the scene, everything is upside down.
And these stars in the dark are you lit lamp.
A thousand of me before me, and after me will be,
Thousand of me, and in thousands not of me, thousand of me.
And we are again shattered and there is no way to fix us.

Spit, because our children will be better than us.
Better than us … Better than us …
When I am gone, I will sing in voices
My children and the voices of their children.

They just swap us
This is the law of samsara,
The cycle of people.
Oh, oh mom …

When I am gone, I will sing in voices
My children and the voices of their children.
They just swap us
This is the law of samsara,
The cycle of people.
Oh, oh mom …

[repeat] [repeat] [repeat]

We love this artist. Their music is fresh and bright and brilliant and driving and intense and filled with love.

It is sacred.

This is what we want to do more of. It is what has brought us here.
